1. Pre-start safety checks (don’t skip this)

Before touching the start button:

• ✔️ Gas supply is available and pressure is within design range

• ✔️ Main gas shut-off valve is closed

• ✔️ Air blower / fan is ready to run

• ✔️ Combustion chamber is clear (no unburned gas inside)

• ✔️ No gas leaks (smell test + detector if available)

• ✔️ All safety devices are OK:

  • Gas pressure switches

  • Air pressure switch

  • Flame detector (UV / ionization / IR)

  • Emergency stop reset

⚠️ If anything fails here, do not start.

2. Start the combustion air system

1. Start the combustion air fan/blower

2. Verify:

   • Air pressure switch closes

   • Airflow is stable

3. Set air damper to purge/start position

👉 Air must always start before gas

3. Purge the combustion chamber

• The control system will run a pre-purge (typically 30–60 seconds)

• Fresh air removes any residual gas

📌 Purge time is critical—never shorten it manually.

4. Enable ignition system

Once purge is complete:

• Ignition transformer / spark igniter turns ON

• Pilot gas solenoid (if equipped) opens

  • Some burners use direct spark ignition (no pilot)

5. Light the pilot flame (if applicable)

• Pilot gas ignites

• Flame detector must confirm flame within 2–5 seconds

❌ If flame is NOT detected:

• System will lock out

• You must investigate and reset before retrying

6. Open main gas valve

After pilot confirmation:

1. Main gas solenoid valve opens

2. Main burner ignites from pilot (or direct spark)

3. Flame detector confirms main flame

7. Burner enters normal operation

• Burner control switches to run mode

• Air–gas ratio control takes over

• Modulating burner adjusts output based on temperature demand

🔥 Burner is now ON and stable

8. Monitor during first minutes

Watch closely for:

• Stable flame (no lifting or flashback)

• Smooth sound (no banging or pulsation)

• Correct gas & air pressure

• No alarms or flame failure trips

Common startup mistakes (very important)

❌ Opening gas before air
❌ Skipping purge
❌ Repeated reset without fixing flame failure
❌ Starting with incorrect gas pressure
❌ Dirty flame sensor or blocked burner head

Quick startup flow (easy to remember)

Air → Purge → Ignite → Pilot → Main Gas → Run
